Amos Heaton

Hi,
I've seen your posting on Ancestry.com for AMOS HEATON b. ca 1735. Could you please advise me if this is the same Amos
Heaton who was in east TN in the late 1700's and established Eaton's (also called Heaton's Station) Station?
He later removed, with Donalson/Robertson, to the area of present-day Nashville TN and established a station there.

Just about every member of David's family named a son Amos and a daugher Mary.
Amos would have been for their uncle, Amos Eaton/Heaton, who was quite well
known as an Indian fighter, both in the Holsten Valley of VA and in the
Cumberland Valley of TN. When Indian raids broke out, it is said that people
would head for Amos Eaton's stand because he had the best fortified stand in
the Nashville area. He owned 45 guns.

Dan: These are the Rounsavalls as found in Brian's book and in a piece of a
Bible that was pulled out of a fire. A fire my great-aunt deliberately burned
four Family Bibles in.

David Rounsavall, son of Benjamin Rounsavall, b. 1735 in Hopwell, Hunterdon
Co., NJ, d. Robertson Co., TN after 1812 m. Brigida Eaton/Heaton/Hayton, sister
of Amos Eaton, in 1760 in NC. Children of David and Brigida were:

James; Lucinda m. Mr. Gordon in Smith Co., TN; Isaac b. 1761 Rowan Co., NC d.
1846 in LA, m. Anna Goddard; Josiah b. 1767 in Davidson Co., TN d. 1822 m. Jane
Moore on 14 Oct. 1794 in Rowan Co., NC; Elizabeth m. Benjamin Drake (they lived
next door to her parents in TN); Amos (my ancestor named for Amos Eaton) b.
1769 in Davidson Co., TN m. Elizabeth Thomas, dau. of William Thomas and
Elizabeth Dove; Robert b. 1775 in Washington Co., VA d. 1847 Greene Co., MS m.
Elizabeth Downey in Baton Rouge, LA 22 March 1801. This marriage took place
in Spanish West Florida and the Spanish required the names of the parents to be
on the marriage certificate. This is the only child of David and Brigida's
that we can definitely prove is their child.

Amos Rounsavall m. Elizabeth Thomas and they are the parents of:

William G. Rounsavell m. Nancy and went to Arkansas; Elizabeth Dove Rounsavell
m. Daniel German 26 Jan 1828 in Williamson Co., TN; Mary "Polly" Rounsavell m.
06 Oct 1813 in Williamson Co., TN George Thomas Bennett (My line - they went to
Greene Co., AL where all 11 of their children were born & many died. Later
they moved to Carroll Co., MS); Scina Rounsavell m. Coleman Garrett 20 Nov.
1823 in Williamson Co., TN (they went to Louisiana. After Amos' death,
Elizabeth lived with the Garrett family and died in Carroll Parish., LA);
Clayborn Rounsaville b. Alabama d 1867 in Mississippi Co., Ark., m. Elizabeth
Caroline; Berry Nolan Rounsaville b. 19 May 1805 Davidson Co., TN d. March,
1861, m. Martha A. Barrington (They migrated to Yell Co., Ark and populated the
county with 13 children,.; Amos H (Heaton) Rounsaville b. 1810 Davidson Co., TN
m. Susan Frances Walker 26 Aug. 1833 in Williamson Co., TN and Joel Rounsavell
b. 1811 in Davidson Co., TN m. Nancy Jane McKenzie of McKenzie, TN.

Amos' children named their children for their brothers and sisters.

How did Robert Rounsaville end up in Spanish West Florida? He "borrowed a
horse" in Kentucky and failed to return it. He went to Spanish West Florida to
escape prosecution, so I have been told. He did redeem himself when he married
the young lady in Baton Rouge, LA. He had quite a bit of land in Eastern
Mississippi and raised a large family. He had a crissot/turpentine mill, and
was an elected official. There was even a town named Rounsaville, MS at one
time.

Even though Brian did not document his first book, you can read the names the
Rounsavalls married and you are reading the history of Ft. Nashboro (now
Nashville).

Mark Rounsavall and Brian are in the process of rewriting and documenting
Brian's book. I believe Mark told me it is well over 1500 pages in length.
Mark is a stickler for documentation, thank goodness.

I don't know whether you know this or not. David Rounsavall and his family,
with the exception of his 16 year old son, Isaac, were on Col. Donaldson's
Flotilla to The Bluffs to "build and defend Ft. Nashboro". Son, Isaac, was put
in the care of his uncle, Amos Eaton, and they went with Gen. Robertson over
the Cumberland Gap to The Bluffs. This was the cruelest winter ever recorded
in TN. Cattle froze as did people. Gen. Robertson and his group arrived at
The Bluffs on Christmas Eve 1779. Col. Donaldson's Flotilla arrived in April
1780. The Donaldson Flotilla encountered Indians daily on their voyage down
the rivers. The Robertson expidition did not encounter any Indians until they
reached The Bluffs.

If your library has a set of the books "A History of Tennessee and
Tennesseans", I suggest you read Vol. I, as you will find David Rounsefer
(another spelling of the name) mentioned quite frequently.

William Rounsavall

The only Rounsavall in 1830 Mississippi with a son less than 10 is this
William in Copiah Co. There is one other Sirus Rounsavill (note spelling)
in Franklin Co.

According to the 1840 census, William had 4 sons and 4 daughters. He moved back and forth between Mississippi and Louisiana.
